KG

Facilities:

The Amman Academy KG encompasses bright and colorful classrooms, an indoor play area used on cold days and for a variety of activities, an outdoor play area where children spend 30 minutes daily playing on the monkey bars and slides with soft felt floor providing a protective surface for the playgrounds. A race track area is also provided as a very entertaining way for children to learn road safety rules and to get exercise.

Arabic and English Proficiency:

English and Arabic language concepts are introduced early on in the pre-school years at Amman Academy through play-and-learn activities. English and Arabic reading rooms are a combination of the KG library and activity reading centers where children practice their reading skills in both languages through hands-on and computer activities. Books in both languages are sent home every Thursday with students to enjoy reading with their parents.

Technology:

E-boards are a lively and powerful tool for young minds to enjoy interactive learning. They contain numerous learning resources and are put to use in the classrooms to present educational songs, science demonstrations, sight words, presentations and story movies narrated by the teachers. Jolly Phonics, a tool for teachers to introduce letters in a fun, creative way, is also presented through the E-boards.

Physical Exercise:

In addition to the daily 30 minutes spent outdoors, children are given two PE classes and two swimming lessons every month. During the 30-minute swimming lesson, students are introduced to the basics of swimming with a professional swimming coach.

Activities:

A variety of fun skill development activities are provided in and out of the classroom through which children develop interpersonal and daily life skills. In-class activities include sharing parties, pajama parties with bed-time stories and cooking activities during which the children learn about healthy eating and nutrition.

Other activities include holiday celebrations and watching plays and performances. Children also get to present dances and songs for their parents; a wonderful way for the children to build their self-confidence.

Several field trips are arranged throughout the year, such as trips to an olive mill, the Children's Museum, the animal shelter and various science education centers.

Pre-KG:

Children learn the basics, such as shapes, colors, numbers, letters, days of the week and months of the year through songs and nursery rhymes.  They are introduced to the Dolch Words at a simple level and learn words that are used daily. Hands-on activities are a major part of their daily schedule; they work in the classrooms on artwork, painting, clay art and cooking activities. Skills such as pencil grip and cutting with children's scissors develop the children's fine motor skills. Social and everyday life education includes road safety, weather, pushing chairs in, table manners, and learning about different animals. Simple Math, English and Arabic activities are also introduced to pre-KG children.

KG1 and KG2

Children learn through hands-on activities and continue with their Dolch words and Jolly Phonics (KG1) in addition to Math, English and Arabic language concepts. Social and daily life education includes safety and awareness (speaking to strangers, etc.), table manners, sharing with friends, being polite to parents and treating the elderly with respect. Leveled reading is also introduced in KG1 and continues through KG2.

KG2 children take the more advanced Active Phonics. In the Reading Racers Program, a list of Dolch words is sent home with each child to practice spelling, formation and reading of sight words. Children begin guided reading with their teachers in addition to the leveled reading program that begins in KG1. During literacy hour, children are offered hands-on reading activities, computer activities and guided reading.
